Spain is not a single radio market but several overlapping ones. Alongside national networks, the autonomous communities run their own broadcasters in Catalan, Basque and Galician, and those stations play music that barely reaches the Spanish-language dial at all.
What to expect
Spanish radio also takes talk seriously in a way that surprises newcomers: the late-night magazine show and the football broadcast are cultural institutions with audiences in the millions. For music, expect Latin pop and reggaeton on commercial FM, flamenco and copla on specialist stations, and a healthy independent rock scene.
If you are learning Spanish, the regional public stations tend to have the clearest, most measured presenters on the dial.
