Radio Compass help
Answers for the Android app, step by step. Menu names are given exactly as they appear in the app in English. Can't find your question? Write to support@virtomaster.com.
Playback
A station won't play
Radio Compass waits up to 10 seconds for a stream to start and retries up to three times — you will see “Attempt 1 of 3”. If it still fails, the “Playback Error” card explains why (for example “Station not responding”, “Audio format not supported” or “This station isn't available in your country”) and offers “Retry”, “Next Station” and, when the catalogue knows a backup address for the station, “Try Alternative”.
“Connection reset” usually means the station is blocked on your current network — try mobile data instead of Wi-Fi, or the other way round.
Why did the app switch to another station by itself?
When a stream fails to start, Radio Compass moves on to the next station in your list, even in the background, and shows “Switching to …”. A station that keeps failing is temporarily hidden from Discover and search results, though you can still find it by typing its name.
To bring hidden stations back, open Settings → Restore hidden stations. The item only appears while something is hidden.
Playback keeps buffering
The app sizes its buffer automatically to your connection, so there is no buffer setting to change. A “Weak Connection” banner means the network itself is the bottleneck. Stations with a lower bitrate need less bandwidth: in search, set Quality to “Data Saver”.
Playback stops when the screen turns off
Radio Compass plays as a media service with its own notification, so it should keep going with the screen off. Two things stop it:
- Swiping the app away from Recent apps stops playback — that is intentional.
- Aggressive battery savers on some phones (Xiaomi, Huawei, Samsung, OnePlus and others) close background apps. In Android settings open Apps → Radio Compass → Battery and choose “Unrestricted”, or remove the app from the “sleeping apps” list.
Headphones, Bluetooth and car controls
Play/pause and next/previous work from the notification, the lock screen, wired and Bluetooth headsets and steering-wheel buttons. Playback pauses when headphones disconnect and during phone calls, then resumes. Pressing play on a headset starts the last station you listened to.
How do I use the sleep timer?
In the player, tap Timer and choose 5, 15, 30, 45, 60, 90 or 120 minutes. The sound fades out over a few seconds instead of cutting off, and the timer keeps working with the screen off. To stop it early, tap “Cancel Timer”.
Song Journal & music services
What is the Song Journal?
Radio Compass writes down every song that stations announce while you listen: artist, title, station and time. The same song on the same station within 20 minutes is kept as one entry. Open it from Settings → Song Journal or the Journal button in the player; you can search it, filter by station and hide entries marked “Track name not provided”.
The free version shows your last 10 entries. Pro shows 30 days of history and syncs it across your devices. The journal cannot be exported at the moment.
How do I save a song to Spotify, YouTube Music or Deezer?
In the player, tap Track to open “Save what's playing”. “Open in Spotify”, “YouTube Music” or “Deezer” searches for the song in that app; with Pro, Spotify and Deezer open the exact track. You can also copy the artist and title to the clipboard.
The free version allows 3 saves a day (a love on Last.fm or ListenBrainz counts as a save, copying does not). Pro removes the limit. Apple Music is not supported.
How do I connect Last.fm?
- Sign in to your Radio Compass account first — Last.fm needs it.
- Open Settings → Service integrations and tap Last.fm · Connect account.
- Approve access on last.fm in the browser that opens.
- Back in the app, keep “Auto-scrobble listening” on.
Scrobbling is free. To disconnect, tap the Last.fm row and choose “Disconnect Last.fm”.
How do I connect ListenBrainz?
- Copy your user token from your settings page on listenbrainz.org.
- In the app open Settings → Service integrations → ListenBrainz · Paste user token, paste it and tap “Connect”.
- Keep “Auto-submit listens” on.
ListenBrainz does not need a Radio Compass account; the token stays on your phone.
Radio Compass Pro
What does Pro include?
- 30 days of Song Journal history, synced across devices (free: last 10 entries)
- Unlimited saves to music services (free: 3 a day) and exact-track links in Spotify and Deezer
- Up to 20 favourite collections
- Extra themes, the audio visualizer, and hiding countries or genres you never listen to
Listening, search, favourites and scrobbling stay free and unlimited. Pro is billed monthly or yearly through Google Play; the app shows the price for your country before you buy. Buying requires signing in, so the plan is linked to your account.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Open Settings → Manage Subscription, or go to Google Play → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions. Deleting your Radio Compass account does not cancel the subscription — cancel it in Google Play.
When Pro ends nothing is deleted: collections are hidden and come back if you subscribe again, and the journal returns to showing the last 10 entries.
I paid but Pro is not active / I changed my phone
Sign in to the same account, open Settings → Go Premium and tap Restore Purchases at the bottom of the screen. Your phone must use the Google account that made the purchase. If it says “No active subscriptions found” although you were charged, write to support@virtomaster.com with the order number from your Google Play receipt.
What is “Support Development”?
One-time tips in Settings → Support Development. They unlock nothing — they simply help keep Radio Compass going. Thank you.
Account & privacy
Do I need an account?
No. Everything except buying Pro, cloud sync and Last.fm works without signing in. You can sign in with email and password, Google or Facebook from Settings → Sign In. An account syncs your favourites across devices for free; with Pro it also syncs collections and the Song Journal. Theme and language stay on each device.
How do I delete my account?
In the app open Settings → Privacy → Delete Account. The account is disabled immediately, data on your phone is erased at once, and the account with its cloud data is permanently deleted 30 days later. If you change your mind within those 30 days, write to support@virtomaster.com. Deleting the account does not cancel a Pro subscription — cancel it in Google Play.
No access to the app any more? Use the account deletion page. If you never signed in, there is no account and nothing on our servers.
How do I turn off analytics?
Switch off Settings → Privacy → Usage Analytics. One switch stops usage statistics, crash and performance reports and anonymous playback reports. Details are in the privacy policy.
Everything else
Which phones and languages are supported?
Android 7.0 or newer. The app is available in English, Español, Deutsch, Français, Italiano, Polski, Português, Türkçe, Русский, Українська, 日本語 and 한국어 — switch in Settings → Language.
Is there an iPhone version?
It is in preparation. Leave your email and we will write once when it is out. Until then the web player works in Safari and can be added to the home screen from the share menu.
A station is missing, or its name or logo is wrong
Radio Compass takes its catalogue from Radio Browser, a free community database of internet radio. New stations and corrections are submitted there, and the app picks them up as the catalogue updates.
How do I contact you?
In the app open Settings → Contact Us — add your email if you would like a reply. Or write to support@virtomaster.com. We usually answer within one business day.
Not on your phone right now?
The web player runs in any browser — no install, no account.
