Classical radio online
Classical radio is where stream quality matters most, and the good stations know it. Public broadcasters in Germany, France, Austria and the Netherlands put real money into their classical channels, often streaming at higher bitrates than anything else on the dial and broadcasting concerts from their own orchestras.
What to expect
Programming styles differ more than you might expect. Some stations run continuous single movements chosen for mood, which works well as background. Others programme complete works with proper introductions, which does not — that is listening, not accompaniment. Both are easy to find; they are just different things.
Look for stations broadcasting at 192 kbps or above. On classical material the difference between 64 and 192 kbps is not subtle.
