Jazz radio online
Jazz is the format internet radio serves better than any other. Commercial FM largely abandoned it, so what survived moved online — and what moved online was run by people who actually care, often with libraries assembled over decades and presenters who name every sideman on the record.
What to expect
The word covers a lot of ground, so it helps to know what you want: straight-ahead and bebop for the classic small-group tradition, vocal jazz for the standards, smooth jazz for something closer to background listening, and fusion or nu-jazz where it meets funk and electronics.
Swiss, French and American public broadcasters run some of the best-programmed jazz channels on the internet, often in higher quality than commercial stations.
