Electronic radio online
Electronic music and internet radio grew up together. The format never needed a transmitter licence or a local audience to make sense, so electronic stations were among the first to stream and remain among the most numerous — many of them running continuous DJ mixes rather than individual tracks.
What to expect
The subgenres really are different formats: house and deep house for the groove-led end, techno and minimal for the harder and more repetitive, trance for the melodic build, drum and bass and jungle for the fast breakbeat tradition, and ambient or downtempo for music designed not to demand attention.
Continuous mixes often broadcast poor or missing track metadata. The Radio Compass app can still journal what it receives, but DJ sets are the one place where the data is genuinely patchy.
